1. The Cathedral
The old Empire-style centre is an exceptionally harmonious area, and its heart comprises the Senate Square and the Cathedral, the best-known building in the city.

2. Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church)
With its natural stone walls and magnificent copper tread ceiling (22 km) this church, completed in 1969, has become one of Helsinki's ‘must visit' places. Architects Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen.

3. Uspenski Cathedral
The Uspenski Cathedral is the biggest Orthodox Church in the Nordic region.

4. Sibelius Monument
Unveiled in 1967 in the Sibelius Park, in memory of Finland's national composer, Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). Sculptress Eila Hiltunen.

5. Design
The clear, uncluttered and minimalist style characteristic of Finnish design is particularly popu-lar. The latest trends in Finnish design are presented at the Design Forum Finland in the centre of the Design District.

6. Suomenlinna Sea Fortress The fortress is built on islands just off the coast of Helsinki and is one of Finland's cultural treasures. The construction work began in the 1700s when Finland was part of Sweden. The sea fortress has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

7. Ateneum Art Museum - the Finnish National Gallery
Vast collection of approx. 20,000 works of Finnish art and modern art from abroad from 1740-960.

8. The Market Square
The Market Square is Helsinki's most international and famous market. The booths sell tradi-tional market foods and treats, as well as handicrafts and souvenirs. A unique and exciting way to discover Helsinki's sights is to choose sightseeing by boat, departures from the Market Square.

9. Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art
Named after the Greek letter X (chi) meaning crossing or decussation, and designed by archi-tect Steven Holl.

10. Shopping
Stockmann department store is the biggest in the Nordic region and is surrounded by the main shopping streets, Aleksanterinkatu, Mannerheimintie and Pohjois- and Eteläesplanadi. Here you will find the Finnish and international label stores as well as unique souvenirs from the traditional crafts to the latest design.
