UPDATE from Cruise Baltic - two new destinations
ith 24 participating destinations and two commercial partners - Scandinavian Airlines and Scandic Hotels - the Cruise Baltic network remains totally committed to the pursuit of implementing its strategies this year and on through into 2013. As the cruise industry continues to grow, the Baltic Sea Region needs to focus on gaining and maintaining its share of the market, working with cruise lines to ensure cruise passenger satisfaction levels are consistently high, benefiting the destinations and cruise lines alike.
The two newest destinations to join are the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania; and the Port of Sassnitz, Germany.

Scandic Hotels look to the future Committed to its ongoing refurbishment and expansion programme - looking to increase its portfolio of hotels from 160 currently to over 200 in the next few years - Cruise Baltic partner Scandic Hotels is opening the NEW Scandic Grand Central Stockholm in September this year; and 2012 will see the completion of the extensive renovation programme at the Scandic Copenhagen.

Happy Cruises repositions The Gemini to the Baltic Sea Region Spanish line, Happy Cruises has repositioned The Gemini to the Baltic in May, sailing week-long cruises out of Copenhagen and Tallinn on traditional Baltic routes. The Gemini will also sail six week-long Norwegian fjord itineraries out of Copenhagen. Cruise Baltic ports of call featured on the itineraries will also include: Stockholm, Helsinki, Klaipeda, Gdynia, Göteborg, Oslo and Kristiansand.

2011 marks a record-breaking cruise season for Saaremaa The year 2011 will be a record-breaking cruise season for Saaremaa harbour, the youngest member among the five harbours operated by Port of Tallinn. Saaremaa harbour - only opened only in 2006 - is expecting 13 cruise ship calls and more than 8,000 cruise passengers in the coming season.

Port of Mariehamn undergoing major improvements The port of Mariehamn is making significant investments in the development of the port infrastructure to meet the ever-increasing demand from the scheduled passenger services. These improvements include an extension of the whole port, new skyways and reconstruction of the passenger terminal.

2011 New Record for Göteborg The largest port in the Noridc region: from 10 to 50 cruise ships in 10 years Visits by cruise ships to Göteborg continue to break new records. 2011 will see 51 vessels visiting the city; on board will be 64,000 passengers eager to discover this friendly city.

Future port development in Oslo debated
In mid-December 2010 a group from the Oslo Municipality, fronted by the PBE group (Agency for Planning and Building Services), along with participants from the Port of Oslo and Visit Oslo, released a report on the future demand for cruise quays in Oslo.
