The Baltic Development Forum Summit

When the Baltic Development Forum held its 7th Summit in Stockholm 16-18 October, the theme The Baltic Sea Region as a Role Model was on the agenda. Speakers including the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel-Barosso, and the Swedish Prime Minister, Göran Persson, contributed to the discussion. Cruise Baltic Project was invited to give a presentation, entitled Tourism Cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region – Creating Joint Policies as a Win-Win scenario.

The time is ripe to create a win-win scenario for the tourism industry in the Baltic Region. This was the clear signal from leading private and public tourism representatives at the summit held in Hamburg in 2004. As an example of how the Baltic Region can make use of the opportunities inherent in joining forces, Cruise Baltic Project was invited to present its project strategy. Project Director Signe Adamsen introduced Cruise Baltic Project and offered her thoughts on how to compete in the international cruise market.

-When people ask me what Cruise Baltic Project is, my initial answer is that the project is primarily its partners. The partners are the core of the project and all of them have been far-sighted enough to accept that the key to individual development is through regional development. To those of us who are part of Cruise Baltic Project, there is no doubt that the Baltic Sea Region has to join forces to be able to compete internationally, says Adamsen

Adamsen gave her presentation on Monday 17 October in a joint parallel session with Dennis Bederoff, managing director of Swedish Tourist Authority; Niels Boserup, president and CEO of Copenhagen Airport A/S; and Mr. Lars Thomassen, vice president of BBDO Regional Headquarters Europe
