Gdynia - the white city

The Legend of Gdynia is the story of how a small fishing village in 1938 was turned into the largest Baltic seaport. The construction of the port gave rise to the development of a big, industrious city in less than 15 years.
Gdynia has its very own expression, a style of architectural modernism full of ship elements, such as bull’s eyes and half decks. This particular style is the reason why Gdynia is also known as “The White City”. Still today, architects of Gdynia stay faithful to this unique style. For the visitor, a stroll through the streets quickly becomes a treasure hunt for details and surprises.
In the harbour, past and present live side by side. Here, one of the most beautiful tall ships in the world “Dar Pomorza” has been turned into an interesting museum and along the Kościuszki Square runs the longest marina in Poland where more contemporary vessels can be enjoyed.
