St Catherines Passage in summer

Tallinn has miraculously managed to preserve its thousand-year old beauty. The Old Town has withstood anything from Viking plundering and crusades to wars and occupations. With its kilometres of winding cobblestone streets and quaint medieval houses, it is in fact the best-preserved old town in Northern Europe and has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1997.

Today, Tallinn is a modern and dynamic society where new buildings appear everywhere as a celebration to the country’s newly won independence. Still, Tallinn is not bigger than it is easy to get familiar with its rare mixture of traditions, influences and numerous pleasant surprises.

In 2011 Tallinn will become the focus of Europe´s culture scene when it takes on its role as a European Capital of Culture.
