More companies focus on the Baltic Sea Region
When the year’s first cruise ships sail out into the Baltic Sea, it will be with more new companies as well as larger ships from companies that already know their way around the region. Carnival ships are well known from the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. This season, Carnival has chosen to be represented in Northern Europe with Carnival Splendor. In addition, Azamara launches its first ship in the Baltic Sea with the luxurious Azamara Journey. Elegant Cruises & Tours will arrive with the ship Andrea. Holland America Line, which previously reduced its capacity in the region, is making a strong comeback with Eurodam whose virgin sail includes the Baltic Sea Region as its destination. Princess Cruises will also increase its capacity in the Baltic Sea Region with larger and newer ships. And, Cunard, who has not sailed here in some years, will also be returning with its newest ship, Queen Victoria who was also here for a Christmas cruise on its virgin voyage in December.
“We already noticed last year a rising interest from the cruise companies that have not sailed in the region as well as renewed interest from companies that have ships in the Baltic Sea Region. We are, of course, very pleased about that. Since Cruise Baltic began in 2004, we have worked hard at being visible and accessible. We have participated in the right forums, attended trade shows, appeared in the media and went on road shows to the cruise lines, etc. The result did not come right away but now it seems that all the hard work has begun to bare fruit. We send a warm welcome to all the new companies,” says Director of Cruise Baltic, Bo Larsen.
