Cruise Baltic puts the environment on the agenda
Much is said about the cruise industry and the impact it has on the environment. But what are the facts and how is the cruise industry doing their part in taking care of the environment?
At the Cruise Baltic meeting in Malmø on 2 June this was debated.
Two representatives - Richard Pruitt, Director of Environmental & Public Health Programs at Royal Caribbean International and Tom Strang, Vice President, Policy & Regulation at Carnival Corporation & plc - spoke about their initiatives and plans for the future. The cruise lines are investing substantial resources in becoming more environmentally responsible and are following national and international regulations above and beyond compliance. As people are becoming more and more aware of the environment - also when they travel - it is necessary for the cruise industry to stay in business today.
The debate kick started the newly initiated environmental workgroup in Cruise Baltic which will focus on getting more information about environmental issues in the Baltic Sea Region and what is being done from a cruise perspective.
