Record Results in Stockholm, Tallinn and Helsinki
This year's cruise season in Stockholm has set a new record. By the last week of the season more than 440,000 cruise passengers had visited Stockholm, which is an increase of 66,000 compared to 2008. The final cruise liner to visit Stockholm was Fred Olsen's Braemar on September 29. "More than 440,000 passengers is a fantastic statistic that shows the powerful attraction of Stockholm as a destination," says Josefin Haraldsson, project leader of Stockholm Cruise Network at the Stockholm Visitors Board.
The 2009 cruise season ending on September 5th brought a record number of passengers to Tallinn. This year 302 cruise ships with 415 000 cruise passengers on board called at Port of Tallinn. These numbers indicate that Tallinn has become one of the most important and popular destinations in the entire Baltic Sea region. Tallinn and the Baltic Sea region were also acknowledged at "Seatrade Europe 2009" which took place in Hamburg on September 15 - 17.
This cruise season, Helsinki Port was visited by 265 international cruise ships, a remarkable achievement considering that due to the northerly location of the city, the season only runs from 3 May until 28 September. Visitors even in early June can find remnants of snow around. The cruise terminal is within a short walk of the city centre. Total visitors numbered 360,000, approximately 22% from the USA, 19% from the UK and 17% from Germany.
